Cracovia eres peligrosa. Peligrosamente adictiva. Me fue suficiente un fin de semana para darme cuenta. Dos días que supieron a mucho. Supieron a una ciudad tranquila con alma (muy) joven capaz de hacer que te sumerjas en ella nada más conocerla. Capaz de hacerte olvidar el cualquier pellizco de frío y hasta casi de hacerte hablar polaco. O de que lo creas.

Krakow you are dangerous. Dangerously addictive. I only needed a weekend to realise that. It was just three days but it felt like a week. It felt like a quiet city with a (very) young soul capable of letting you inside its deep heart right after being introduced, capable of making you forget about the weather and even capable of making you speak Polish. Or at least making you believe you do.

Llegamos a Cracovia para ver a Green Day Una razón un tanto al azar, aunque suficiente para poder poner el pie en Polonia. Durante nuestros casi tres 3 días en Cracovia vivimos cada minuto (día y noche) todo lo que nos dejó la ciudad y el frío. Aterrizando de lleno directos en la noche del barrio Judío, nos costó poco conectar con el espíritu universitario que se adueña de casi toda la ciudad cuando se pone el sol. Con eso y con el Vodka a una décima parte del precio que se paga en Londres. En nuestro caso la diferencia la pagamos al día siguiente, aunque bien compensado con historias no son aptas para ser aireadas aquí.

We traveled to Krakow to see Green Day. Despite being a random reason, it was good enough to step into Poland. During our 3 days in Krakow we lived every minute (day and night) as much as the city (and the weather) allowed us. Right after landing we slipped ourselves into the Jewish quarter and it took us very little to connect with the student soul that owns the city once the sun has set. It also took us very little to connect with the vodka, freely flowing at a tenth of London prices. In our case the saving was offset the next morning, but the crazy shenanigans (which unfortunately can’t be told here) of night before made up for it.

 

Una vez recompuestos, Cracovia esperaba con los brazos abiertos y una brisa firme para también dejarse conocer a la luz del día. Ante nosotros se alzaba una de las más antiguas e importantes ciudades de Polonia a la que le presentamos nuestros respetos.

Once we pulled ourselves together, Krakow awaited with its arms wide open and a strong breeze to be explored during daylight. And so we paid our respects to one of the oldest and more important cities in Poland.

Una ciudad recogida por el río Vístula sobre el que deambulamos hasta que el frío nos empujaba den nuevo al calor del apartamento.

A city nestled by the river Vistula along which we wandered for a while until the cold weather pushed us back to the apartment.

 

Auschwitz.

Aprovechando el viaje, el domingo decidimos tomar aliento y visitar el que fue el campo de concentración de Auschwitz, uno de los más grande campos de exterminio Nazi durante la segunda guerra mundial. Visitar ese lugar y caminar por donde se cometió una de las mayores d de la humanidad la verdad es que en ciertos momentos nos puso el estómago del revés. Recorrer el campo de concentración, por el que aquel día reinaba una paz perturbadora, intentando absorber todos los detalles sobre lo que aconteció allí a aproximadamente 1.3 millones de seres humanos fue una tarea muy complicada. Había que pausar y tomar aire para no desmayarte intentando comprender el porqué existieron seres humanos capaces de semejantes barbaridades. La única conclusión que pude sacar es que soy increíblemente afortunado de vivir donde y como vivo y debo seguir apreciando eso día tras día.

Mi repugna, odio y condena hacia todo aquel que formo parte de la masacre.

Mis respetos a todas las personas que perecieron en este lugar.

Mi profunda admiración a los que sobrevivieron.

Auschwitz

Making the most of our visit, on Sunday we decided on a change of pace and visited Auschwitz, one of the biggest Nazi concentration camps during WWII. Walking across the ground which was witness to the majority of one of the biggest genocides humanity has ever seen, was certainly distressing. Just trying to absorb all the details about all what happened there, where nearly 1.3 million people were executed, was very tough to say the least. We had to keep pausing to try get some fresh air every time we were trying to understand how it was possible the human being was capable of undertaking such a massacre. The only conclusion I could come up with after seeing all that, is that I am very lucky to live where and how I live and I need to keep appreciating that every single day of my life.

My deepest hate to all those who were responsible for this massacre.

My thoughts to everyone who perished there.

My sincere admiration to those who managed to survive.
