La costa suroeste del Reino Unido nunca me ha decepcionado. Cuando la descubrí el primer año que aterricé en Inglaterra me dejó asombrado de lo versátil que puede llegar a ser. Con un alma puramente británica, muestra lo mejor de si cuanto más te adentras en ella. En los pequeños pueblos de pescadores que se dispersan a través de la costa. En sus espectaculares costas con (según mi opinión) las mejores playas que puedas encontrar en el país. Paisajes que cuando sale el sol o cuando se pone son capaces de arrancarte un suspiro o una sonrisa con firma de paz interior. Si a todo esto le sumas que durante gran parte del año también puedes surfear bastante decentemente (enfundado en traje, botas y guantes de neopreno), la “barbilla” del Reino Unido es para mí una visita obligada. Y como residente, al menos una vez al año.

United Kingdom South West coast has never disappointed me. I was so fascinated when I discovered, on my first year in England, how versatile it can be that I instantly became its fan number one. With a pure British soul, South West England will show you its wonders the more you go deep into its heart. Into the little fishing villages scattered all over the coast. Into its breath-taking coastlines and some of the best beaches you can find in this country. Landscapes with a genuine inner peace signature capable of taking your breath away as the sun sets or rises on a new day. If on top of this you add the fact that surfing can be quite decent during most of the year (sheathed in a thick wetsuit, boots and gloves), South West UK is for me a must visit, at least once a year if you are resident.

 

En este caso nos juntamos para un cumpleaños y un poco más al norte de Corwnall (aka Cornualles) en Devon, un condado situado en el suroeste de Inglaterra. Concretamente limita con Cornualles al oeste y con Dorset y Somerset al este. El nombre Devonshire se utilizó durante un tiempo aunque en la actualidad ha caído en desuso y se utiliza sólo para algunos nombres oficiales como el de Duque de Devonshire.

This time we got together to celebrate a friend’s birthday a bit further north from Cornwall (my usual stop), in Devon, also known as Devonshire. A county of England, reaching from the Bristol Channel in the north to the English Channel in the south. It is part of South West England, bounded by Cornwall to the west, Somerset to the northeast, and Dorset to the east. The north and south coasts of Devon each have both cliffs and sandy shores, and the county’s bays contain seaside resorts, fishing towns, and ports. The inland terrain is rural, generally hilly, and has a low population density in comparison to many other parts of England.

 

Y lo volvió a hacer. Volvió hacerme sonreír de nuevo.

And it did it again. It did make me smile one more time.

Una sonrisa de desconexión del intenso ritmo de Londres y de conexión con esa santísima trinidad que es la costa, el mar y el sol. Y aunque siempre tímido y caro de ver pese a que se esconda entre las nubes, a cada paso que daba, la luz del sol dibujaba un nuevo paisaje digno de estar colgado en cualquier museo de pintura paisajista.

A smile of disconnection from the intense pace of the city and connection with the holy trinity which is the coast, the sea and the sun. Despite sometimes it can be a bit shy and hide behind the clouds, on every step I took the sunshine was somehow drawing a new landscape worth belonging to a museum.

Imposible negar otra visita muy pronto.
